What does Jury Service cover?
Jury service is something that many people find interesting and rewarding, but if you’re self-employed the financial implications of attending court can mount up in lost earnings. Aside from some exclusions, such as having been in prison within the last 10 years, you must do jury service when you’re asked, though under certain circumstances you may be able to defer it. While you can claim expenses and some loss of income from the courts service, these amounts may not cover your full income, potentially leaving you out of pocket.
Our Jury Service cover is designed to pay the policyholder a daily amount of £250 for the first 10 days (the usual amount of time required for jury service) and £100 per day thereafter, so while we can’t guarantee that your full income will be maintained, it should help. You cannot take this cover out if you have already been called for jury service.
